Hi, I’m Kate Parker, a junior here at Durham Academy. After witnessing the high levels of mental illness and general stress experienced by high school students, I decided to conduct an independent study on the science of “how to be well.” This includes wellness techniques, meditation, breathing exercises, and what other schools are doing to combat mental illness. Hopefully, I will implement some of my findings here at DA after presenting them to the wellness committee. Additionally, I will be putting into practice some of these coping mechanisms within my own life and recording my findings here on this blog.
